What’s in a name?

Here at Arcana Brewing, formulating the perfect name to represent our beer and our atmosphere was quite probably our most arduous task. After many a sleepless night plagued by midnight drearies, too much good beer with too much internet reading, and lawsuit naming nightmares, our fine proprietor was struck with an idea: to create a brewery that reminds the world of the long history and magic of brewing.

Hence the name Arcana.

Loosely derived from “arcane” or “archaic,” Arcana alludes to things that are old, mysterious, and unusual.

However, our favorite definition by far is that of a secret and powerful remedy. We don’t know about you, but we believe a well-poured pint can go a long way towards curing what ails you.

Now that our name was sorted out, it was time to cement our style. And what better way to embody our spirit of mystery than with the creativity, good humor, and innate individuality of the steampunk movement.

Steampunk got its start as a genre of fiction that incorporates science fiction, steam age technology, and Victorian elements. Inspired by antiquarian antiques, found industrial items, and the rich smell of leather and brass, the brewery’s walls began to take shape and a character all their own.

We hope you enjoy our beer as much as we enjoy delving into the arcane arts of brewing.
